Miss Lisa's April Newsletter

April 2011
Butterfly M-W-F Class,
Can you believe how fast March came and went?  Is it true that April showers bring May flowers?  I love flowers, but we can sure do without so much of the
April starts with our Spring Break that runs from the 4th -8th.  Please enjoy your time off with the wonderful weather we are having!  When we get back from Spring Break, we will be in full swing and enjoying the music, art, and history of Passover! This year Passover is being observed April 19th through April 26th. While we are observing Passover, we would like to ask that no chametz, or “bread” products be brought into school for lunch.  This means anything that “rises” or is leavened.
Snack will consist of fresh fruit, eggs, matzah crackers, and any other item that follows the practice during this special time of year. We will be going over what is chametz and why we only eat unleavened bread during Passover.
This month we are also going to start our butterflies and bugs section.  The children will have a wonderful time searching for little critters in our garden and in yours. We will go over the cycle of the butterfly and maybe the lady-bird as well. This and so much more is going to make our April fly by.
We are very excited to announce that last week we added a new friend to our Butterfly class; Quincy and his mother Stephanie.  Quincy has adjusted well and everyone has been very helpful making him feel comfortable.

Shalom Parents                                                                                                April, 2011

Spring is here and we have so much going on at preschool!
I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break!
I was on a fun Bay Area trip visiting friends and family.
It went by so quickly!

We are in full swing with Passover projects and getting ready for Open House!
The children are really enjoying hearing all about Passover.
They love singing about Pharoah and the plagues, and they especially
love talking about the foods we eat at a seder.
I am going to be hiding the afikomen next week in the classroom.
I will be sure to video tape the children looking for it!
Our school seder was a great success. Thank You for bringing the delicious
food items. The children sat very nicely while Rabbi Lisa led a fun seder.

In addition to Passover, we are talking about insects.
Soon we will be getting our own caterpillars/butterflies to take care of!

We are also collecting donations for our two baskets to auction off at Open House. One basket is all things COFFEE and the other is all things GARDENING!
We hope you will contribute to one of them!
Thank You to Lori Dearman for your help with this project!!

Miss Lisa's March Newsletter

March 2011

Shalom MWF friends!  We had a fantastic February by celebrating the Lunar New Year with some yummy desserts from Korea and some of us even tried out chopsticks for the first time.  The children really enjoyed talking about healthy foods and how to keep their hearts (Lev in Hebrew) healthy.  The Jog-a-thon even though it rained went on as planned and the children had a wonderful time! These experiences hopefully spark ideas for more activities at home.
During our circle time, I have introduced the students to a new program to our school; Handwriting without Tears. This program introduces the students in how the letters look and feel. The writing will begin soon after. We are building confidence, then strategy. Our pre-K’s are picking it up fast and it has been a nice introduction for the 3’s who have one more year with it.
This month we will be discussing Purim. We will start with who the characters are and what role they had in the Magillah story of Queen Esther. We will be making groggers, crowns and masks for our Purim stories read in class and Temple. Friday March 18th we will be having Purim-themed centers. This is a great event for the children.  Have all of your children dress-up in their favorite characters. Please remember no weapons or scary masks.  March 29th has been scheduled for us to have our Passover Seder. Please check the door to sign up to bring something for the Seder. Rabbi Lisa and Mrs. Janis will be running the Seder service for us, so don’t miss out it will be a lot of fun. All family members are invited.(Edan making a “J” using the new program Handwriting without Tears)
